Market position, competitive pricing and strong residual values.
This is a carryover theme from my Abarth 595 analysis. Whilst Alpine have strong residual values (RV’s) based on their market position, their weakness is understanding the implications of poor specification in their vehicles as they get more expensive in value. This is especially highlighted in the Legende model.
The ‘Pure’ model has enough meaningful specification, that we don’t actually recommend you get the ‘Legende’ or ‘S’ model unless it’s the specification that you specifically require. Let’s not forget, this is a car that competes in the same space as Lotus, and those vehicles concentrate on performance and track-based differentials rather than internal specification.
We gave the 1.8L Turbo Pure 2dr DCT an 8.4 / 10 in terms of value for money compared with other models in the range. This number is a pure mathematical equation, not our personal opinion.

The Car Leasing Guru scoring system is based on the overall value a particular vehicle offers.
We do not single out specific terms and mileages, instead, we concentrate on the entirety of a lease over multiple terms and mileages to create an overall score.
This score is converted into a meaningful number between 0 and 10 so that you can better understand which vehicle offers the best value. I’ve included the definition for the category the Alpine A110 sits in, as it got an 8.4 overall.

Value For Money
There are three specifications to choose from in the A110 range. The base model ‘Pure’, the mid-spec ‘Legende’ and the top-spec ‘S’. Based on the specification, the Pure model easily offers the best value for money when looking at the entire Alpine A110 range.
The A110 range comes with a 1.8-litre engine, only available with a DCT (automatic) gearbox. The base model Pure and mid-spec Legende both get 252bhp, with the S model getting 292 bhp.
The basic ‘Pure’ model gets a standard audio system, as in, it literally makes a sound, nothing more… and it also 17″ alloy wheels, but other than that, it really doesn’t get much more meaningful spec. It’s literally a play on the name ‘Pure’, it has the purest spec, all the basics, nothing to blow your mind.
The ‘Legende’ spec doesn’t get much more to be quite honest. An upgraded audio system, 18″ alloys aluminium pedals and upgraded seats.
Then we have the top-spec ‘S’ model, which has significantly more specification, but only some of which is meaningful in terms of overall value for money when you’re leasing it. It gets 18″ alloys (a different variation of the Legende model), aluminium passenger footrest, carbon / blacked-out badging, active sports exhaust, Alpine telemetrics, front and rear parking sensors + park assist, sports chassis and high-performance brakes.
Generally, we will always look for the smallest amount you would pay over the course of the lease, at the same time I will also look at how much value the cheapest lease actually offers you. There is no point in Car Leasing Guru suggesting the cheapest possible lease if all you get is a steering wheel and a windscreen, especially when you might be able to pay £10 per month extra and get a significant increase in the specification, exterior design, engine performance or economy. In this instance that’s why we’ve picked the Pure model. It offers the most ‘value for money’ in our opinion.
The mid-spec 1.8L Turbo Legende 2dr DCT is £4,000 more expensive than the basic Pure model which costs £47,545 in the UK.
When you look at the additional specification you get for the Legende and the possibility of spending an extra £2,034 over the course of a 2 year / 10,000 m/pa lease. In makes more economical and financial sense to get the cheaper ‘Pure’ model. We would personally not want to pay £2,034 extra for an upgraded audio system, 18″ alloys, aluminium pedals and upgraded seats. It doesn’t make economical or financial sense. This would equate to an extra £84.75 per month.
Technical talk: Alpine, if you are reading this (and I doubt you are), you need to concentrate on performance over internal specification. You also need to lower the retail price of your mid-spec model to compensate for the price that you will be guaranteed with the RV in the future. Upgraded audio systems do not add value to your vehicle, nor do aluminium pedals. You need to absorb that cost yourselves and price the vehicle in proportion to the specification that adds value. Love the car, but the specification needs work.
You can see on the graph below how the vehicles are priced by Alpine. If you compare this price against the total lease cost, you can clearly see why we recommend the 1.8L Turbo Pure 2dr DCT. This is also highlighted by something called the ‘percentage of list’, which I’ve explained below.
Percentage Of List
The ‘percentage of list’ is the difference between the capital cost (OTR price) and the Residual Value (RV). This shows, at a glance, exactly where value is attributed as a percentage. The lower the number, the better the percentage of list. This is usually a good indication of “value for money”.
Looking at the percentages within the graph below, you can see that they run at around 28.7% or so for a 2 year lease, up to 40.4% on a more realistic 3 year lease. This means you will be paying between 28.7% to 40.4% of the total value of that vehicle before you hand it back. You can pay substantially more depending on which model you pick.
Side note: This is incredible value for money, and actually, in spite of my issues with the specification, Alpine has done an excellent job in getting the best residual value possible in order to get a good percentage of list.
Leasing companies normally don’t read the percentage of list in this way, they actually read it in the opposite way. They would say that the vehicle has 65% of its value left, not that someone would spend 35% of the vehicle’s value. This is because they want to know what the value of the vehicle is at the end of its lease and make any adjustments where necessary from a financial risk perspective. Just makes the calculation easier on their end.
The percentage can give you a good indication of “value” but it also needs to be double-checked against the ‘On The Road’ price. Otherwise, a Ferrari would look like good value for money if we didn’t double-check the overall price and only looked at the percentage of list…

The Total Lease Cost
Hopefully, the process outlined above gives you some indication on why we picked the 1.8L Turbo Pure 2dr DCT over the other models.
It has one of the lowest percentage of list at 2 years (28.7%), and it also has one of the lowest overall costs over the course of a lease. If you pick a longer-term, the monthly payments would be less, because you are spreading the cost, but if you want to get the most value for money, then it is best to get the 1.8L Turbo Pure 2dr DCT model.
Why The Difference In Price?
This is all to do with something called the Residual Value, or RV for short. This is a price that’s assigned to a vehicle at the end of its useable life. So from a leasing perspective, the end of its useable life is at the end of its term, because the leasing company is simply going to sell that vehicle, and it’s going to have another life with another customer. So the end of the useable life from a leasing perspective is essentially however long you lease that vehicle for, and they’re trying to understand the value at the end of the lease.
You will have to make the judgment on whether the 1.8L Turbo Pure 2dr DCT model is worth £2,034 less over the course of a 2 year lease compared with the Legende model. For us, it is, but the decision rests with you.
