BMW X2 Leasing Guide (2018-)
We can totally see why BMW created the X2. When you have established and new rivals coming to market like the Volkswagen Tiguan and Volvo XC40, you need to be able to counter those sales with BMW specific products for those that want an alternative premium offering than those I’ve listed above.
What doesn’t help, is a huge list of vehicles to pick from and not knowing which one is best in terms of value for money. That’s where we come in. We’ve looked at the entire BMW line-up and provided a chart below that will show the 10 best X2 models in their line-up in terms of pure “value for money”. We’ll take about how we picked them below – See Total Lease Costs Graph.
If you don’t care about that, and you literally want to know what the best BMW X2 to lease is, then you’re in the right place. Look down.
Analysis – The Best Overall Choice
The sDrive 18i M Sport X 5dr is the best BMW X2 to lease.

On The Road Price: £33,200
Analysis – The Best Overall Value
If you are looking for a BMW X2 that offers the best overall value, look no further than the xDrive 20i Sport 5dr Step Auto
We also gave this model a 9.1/10 Car Leasing Guru score.
This model has a percentage list of 27.3%, so you would only pay a fraction more than the model above.
And lastly, the total overall lease cost for this model would be £9,600 over a 2 year term doing 10,000 miles per annum.
On The Road Price: £35,110
What’s the difference between these models?
The main difference is the drive train, moving to the xDrive (All-Wheel-Drive) system. The xDrive model also comes with a larger engine but also with less specification, being the Sport model, rather than the M Sport X model.
There are four specifications to choose from in the BMW X2 range. The base model ‘SE’ up to the ‘M Sport X’. The ‘M Sport X’ models easily offer the best value for money when looking at the entire range.
The ‘SE‘ model gets:
- 17″ alloys
- LED headlights
- rear parking sensors
- BMW Navigation
- 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats
- Automatic tailgate
The ‘Sport‘ model everything the SE gets, PLUS:
- 18″ alloys
- cornering headlights
- shadowline exterior trim
- high-gloss black interior trim
The ‘M Sport‘ gets everything the Sport gets, PLUS:
- 19″ alloys
- M Aerodynamics package
- heated front seats
- M Sport suspension
- M rear spoiler
- leather upholstery
The ‘M Sport X‘ gets everything the M Sport gets, PLUS:
- 19″ alloys (different style to the M Sport)
- Satin aluminium exterior trim
- M Sport X aerodynamic body styling
- satin aluminium roof rails

Check out the graph below to get an overview of exactly what you would pay over the course of a lease. We’ve included some generic terms and mileages such as 24, 36 and 48 months, covering 10, 20 and 30,000 miles per annum.
If you need to check the monthly lease price for your own particular needs, please check out our pricing system on the homepage, and we’ll tell you exactly what you should be paying per month.
Remember, we have only selected 10 models in the BMW X2 line-up, there are many more than this, but we wouldn’t personally recommend them over and above these.
We’ve also included the two that we would recommend as a separate chart.
*Mileage is calculated per annum. 36m 20k = 36-month lease, with a total end mileage of 60,000.

Analysis – How We Found the Best Value
*Based on the ‘Total Lease Cost’ graph for a 24-month lease @ 10,000 miles.
On The Road Price
sDrive 18i M Sport X 5dr | £33,200
xDrive 20i Sport 5dr Step Auto | £35,110
Difference between On The Road Price | £1,910
Next, we’ll look at how much you would pay over a 2-year lease, doing 10,000 miles a year.
Total Lease Costs
sDrive 18i M Sport X 5dr | £8,921
xDrive 20i Sport 5dr Step Auto | £9,600
Difference between Total Lease Cost | £679
Monthly payment: £679 / 24 months = £28.29 per calendar month
Lots of different numbers going on there, so let me explain.
What this tells us is that there is an OTR price difference of £1,910 between the two vehicles, but you would actually be spending an additional £679 over the course of the lease.
There’s a couple of issues here. The AWD system, bigger engine and automatic gearbox do not compensate for the M Sport X specification in the cheaper model. So while it looks like you get a good deal because you ONLY need to spend an extra £28.29 per month to get the AWD system, bigger engine and auto gearbox, what it actually highlights is that the M Sport X model is actually better value for money overall.
This is just some basic analysis that will hopefully help you understand the value of a 2020 BMW X2 lease a little better. So if you are looking for cheap lease deals, car lease comparisons or cheap car leasing, the model we have picked above is your best bet.
